I feel your pain - so sorry for the experience. I've been robbed twice. Once was my new garage - left the project car but emptied the place. Trooper said if I didn't have windows (they broke one out) that they use a battery circular saw to come through the wall studs. Slime!!

I spent yesterday all day at banks, changing to new accounts, closing old ones. Had a locksmith come out and change all the locks on the house.
Had to have all the locks on my Avalanche changed.

I'm going to get an alarm system and also a good safe, to keep all my important papers. file cabinets with locks aint stopping anyone or slowing them down. I do believe a good safe in a good location can be safe or slow them down alot.

They took my CAD workstation they didn't unplug a single cable. They cut every cable attached to it. Printer cable, monitor cable, keyboard, mouse, intenet. They didn't want to spend any time fishing wires thru and around the desk.
The worse part is i never did a backup on that computer. I lost all my work and also lost the last 4 years of digital pictures.

Sorry to hear of your loss....It makes you hate the world!!
I own serveral rental properties and have had a few broken into. Lost tools and supplies. I turned to Tattle Tale alarms. Works of cell phone signal. Has worked great for me. Sometimes when I have more than one property vacant, I just hang the signs in the window and thats it. I just can say enough about this alarm. It is truely a great system.

They tried coming thru the french doors in the back. They failed but the doors have to be repaired and repainted.

So then they took a chair from my lawn furniture around the side of the house and broke the window in the laundry room, came through there and then took stuff out the back door.

The alarm system is a good call. It still won't stop them but it will limit the time they have for sure. I have a system and it is $25.00 a month. I would upgrade from the basics. I have 44 windows in my house so I could not hard wire all of them. Some areas are motion and I also glass breakage sensors. Just be sure to ask them how long the battery back up is. Nothing worse than going to the trouble and expense only to have a weak battery back up and the bastards cut the power and come back an hour later.
