Default '09 GTO L79 with 6sp auto in second gen Camaro

Can anyone help me out here? I am looking at a '09 G8 L79/6sp auto combo to go in my 1970 rs Camaro. I am curious about the durability of the trans if I bump the power up in the engine (400-450?). Does anyone here have any experience with this combo? I know I can make the motor/trans fit in the car and I am very confident in my mechanical abilities. It's the programing and electronics portion that I am a TOTAL rookie. Give me a carb with a distributor and I can do wonders. But being a little behind the curve with the LS series engines and current electronic transmissions has me nervous.
So I guess my questions are; 1- Does anyone have a tuning package available for this set up? 2- What are the SAFE power levels this 6 speed tranny can take? 3- Does anyone here have actual hands on experience with this package that might be able to give me some insight on a good way to handle the instal in to my camaro.
I currently have a stock subframe and think I will keep it that way for budget reasons. (it will be made a little more stout and will also be adding sub frame connectors). My car will see 99% street duty but that does not mean it will not be abused by my right foot on a regular basis. (just ask my 2000 Mustang about abuse )
My next area of concern is the rear suspension and diff. It has the factory ten bolt right now. If I rebiuld it, weld the tubes, use better aftermarket axels and all that, will it handle a 450 hp engine or do I need to step up to a 9 inch or 12 bolt?
I know there is alot of questions here, and ANY help with the selection of components would be greatly appreciated.
I know how to put it all together the right way, I just want to know I am using the right parts to reach my goals. The main goal is to not have to call a tow truck because my rear end exploded on the road somewhere.
Thanks again for any input.

09 GTO?

Anyways, everyone is running superchargers and crap on the new G8's and older GTO's with stock engine, trans and rear end.

It was an ad from Pick a part. Said it was an 09 G8. Also said 08 in the same ad. I'm confused and asked them to clarify. My biggest concern is being able to fully take advantage of all the features of the 6 speed auto trans. and how much power it can handle. I don't know of anyone using that trans or if there are any software packages out there for tuning that combo in an older car/swap.
MY FIRST POST WAS WRONG. IT IS A G8, NOT A GTO. Sorry about the confusion.

There are packages out there for running the trans, but your best bet may be to run the stock computer as it will control the trans also.

I'm ok using the factory harness and computer. I just wanted to make sure threre wasn't some goofball sensor that freaks out when it's low on "blinker fluid" or some other strange thing that would make it impossible to adapt to my car. Because my blinker fluid is always topped off.
After reading a little about how complex that trans is I got a little concerned about being able to use it and everything it has to offer. Do you know anything about the power limit of that 6 sp auto? As in how much it can handle before going a-wall?
Thanks for the input.

you need to run the factory transmission controller, the transmission has its own controller on the tranny itself. it needs ot be used with a late model engine, which you are using, and the tunnel will need to be modified to use the transmission.

Check over at LS1tech.com (in the conversion and hybrids section) for more info on the swap. There is a guy there trying to install one in an first gen. Besides the controller issues, the trans pan hangs below the subframe (bad news for lowered cars).

Hey, thank you to everyone for the info. Knowing the pan is so deep will probably keep me from using that tranny.
Back to plan "A" which was LQ9 or similar 6.0L with a 6 speed manual trans.
Unless some one has a "easy" way to stuff an entire C6 rolling chassis setup under my car?(1970 rs Camaro). It seems the prices from Pick a part (advertising in the "for sale" forum) are pretty reasonable. Has anyone here had any experience with them? Good or bad I'd like to hear what anyone has to say regarding doing business with them. I have not had any dealings with them but everything looks good from my seat. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric
