Default LT1/T56 clutch & flywheel?

I'm at the point of needing a clutch/flywheel for my '68 camaro w/ '96 LT1/T56. The motor is ProCharged and will make around 600hp. I was considering an Aluminum flywheel, what's your thoughts?

From reading the LT1 Tech board I've found that Spec Stage 3 or 4 clutches are quite popular as well as Centerforce's Dual Friction and some say Mcleod are the best but very pricy...about $250 more for the combo...

As always thanks for the input!!

In my experience.........I wouldn't run the Centerforce........if you have any kind of low end torque..........it won't hold. I had one on my 383.......and in my low rpms and high torque area.......it would just slip.......it didn't last me long at all.

I've had a lot of good experience with the McLeod's.........it held real nice......but can definitely give your leg a work out. You really notice the pressure plate.

I would stay away from the aluminum flywheel.......takes away too much rotating mass and just kills the car on launches........especially if your on drag radials. Ex.....I could launch my 2002 SS Camaro with 350 hp/ 360 tq at the wheels with drag radials and a steel flywheel.......and it would blow the tires off at anything above a 3000 launch. With the same setup on my aluminum flywheel........I could launch at 5500 and I had to be real careful not to bog the car. But like I said........that McLeod grips hard.

Now.......I've heard a lot of good things about the Spec clutch........I heard it has the grip of the McLeod but a feel of a factory clutch. But I honestly haven't had a chance to use one in my own car.

It will be my next clutch to use though.

I hope this helps in some way.

Dave.

The Spec III is grabby from a dead stop, kinda on/off. It doesnt slip once you have it going. Supposedly rated at ~700 FtLBS. Pedle feel is pretty much stock......at least in my LT1 Camaro
