Default Drag Racing - Central Illinois....

Taking the 69 Camaro out to run with some locals at a nearby track on Saturday.

http://www.midstatedragway.com/v2/site.html

I've had it on the 1/4 in Orlando...and on the 1/8th in Lakeland...but this will be the first time not running it on Goodyear runflats...and the first time in Illnois.

Should be fun - I'll post my times after we get back.

Got rained out...so we are going back today. The family and I are going to head out to church...then slip over there for some tire spinning Sunday afternoon furry!

I looked up my old time slips from running in Orlando in January 07 with the Goodyear C5 runflats out back.

It ran 8.1 @ 89 mph.

Hoping to beat that by a tad with the stickier rear rubber (Nitto Evo)

Scott Baum of Baum Chevy has a killer 69 Camaro drag car and a huge trailer with plenty of room to drag my bucket of bolts home if I throw something out the pan!

My car used to run 89 in the 1/8 at one time. With a 1.68 60 foot it ran a 12.04 at 112.

Man...we had an interesting day.

First...we got pulled over by a Logan County cop on the way there. I was doing 71 in a 55 (per his radar). I have no idea how fast I was going - was just running through the cornfields behind a truck and enjoying a window down kind of day. He was cool though - let it slide.

THen, we got lost. THe GPS sent us to an address over 20 miles out of the way in the middle of another cornfield! LOL. Got to the track just as our group was being called to run.

Here is the funny thing - I put new wheels/tires on the car early this year. The new ones are a micro size off - they are so close, I didn't bother to have the LS1 computer re-flashed. Ooops - that was a mistake.

The car ran out great and my best of the day was a 8.00 on the first pass - which was .1 better than the fastest it had run with the old Goodyear runflats outback. However....it wouldn't get out of 2nd gear. I ran through the traps on the rev limiter and not shifting. My trap speed dropped from 89 to 85 mph. Nothing I could do about it yesterday, so we just locked and loaded the ET at 7.9 to run the race.

Made it down to the finals...then I red lighted and broke out (I ran my dial in up to 8.1 because the car was getting slower as the day went - then ended up running a 8.0 again anyway.

Here is the best part....LONG dirt/gravel roads...LOTS OF DUST....plenty of spent rubber droppings on the fender....and not a water hose in site to wash it down. It looks like I just went through a baja race! Plus...we drove the car there and back - no failures with the track 60 miles away - but for us it was 80 miles because we took a wrong turn! I bet I still averaged 25 mpg I'll upload some pics as soon as our computer is out of the shop and I can do so
