Ok, they look well sweet & would definately make most engine bays look cool, but even at $500.00 it's still darn expensive, sure it's a shed load of work to make them, but just put it into perspective here for a while,....... they just hold the bonnet open!! if you've got so much money that you don't bat an eyelid spending that amount on hinges, then give the money to charity to do something worth while with it. Thats a few months rent or mortgage for most people.
Considering I spent $200 on two billet emblems on my last car I guess I am a bit nuts.. lol..

And I'm in SoCal.. so $1000 doesn't even hit 30% of a motgage and its barely over half for the average rent... lol

A few people would buy them at $1000 but to make a ton of sales they need be less than $400.. but that is just my marketing opinion.. can't wait to see how it all fleshes out.

I would buy a set for my '56 if they made them (they probably do not have any plans for that though ), but they would have to be less than $400, I am still in school .

You guys that think these should sell for under $300 are nuts Even with the awesome software available to animate 3d assemblies they probably went through at least 10 prototypes getting the linkage correct. Honestly there is some serious thought and engineering put into those and unless they get an upfront order that excedes 100 units I would be AMAZED to see them sell for under $600/pr

and honestly, at $750/pr I don't think they will have any problem selling them. These aren't for every joe, but the guys who are building high end cars won't flinch at the price. Heck in Mopar land people pay 3x that for a silly horn emblem.

Couple of thoughts:

1st: nobody knows, not even the people making these units pictured, know what the final pricing will be. What you see here are working prototypes. 'Mules' in a sense.

2nd: Pandora's box has been opened on billet hinges. I would be willing to venture a bet that there will be more than one source for for these. It's obvious that people really like them and it won't take long for the market to react. These days it's all about fresh ideas and getting them to market first as whenever there's something cool that comes out, there will definitely be competitors wanting in on the action. How many companies make tubular UCA's for 1st Gen F-bodys now?

Of course, this is just my opinion.

Hey I am nuts too ..... oh wait, no ................. ummmm .

LOL.

I wasn't really commenting on what they should be priced, I was just saying what I can afford to pay for something like that at the moment (ie not much ).

They are sweet. Gotta figure the guy will have a 100% markup on the manufacturing side to retail. Then dse will get a break from there prolly 25 to 50 %. just a guess.

cost to manufacture $250 x 2 = $500 retail

detroit speed cost prolly $400

In my opinion anything over $600 your taking it up the you know what.lol

I talked to the Ring Brothers and I am sending them a hinge from a 2nd gen. Camaro so they can make me a pair. I don't know about price yet, but he will take a look at the hinges and give me a quote. Maybe we can get a group purchase.
