I'm glad I found the edge right at the end of my day. I think I had a little to much rear brake in the car as well. Right at the end of the longest back straight the car started to get loose under heavy braking. I'll dial a couple turns of back brake out of it next time. It's amazing how quickly you don't realize just how fast you're going. The car has a bunch of potential. I need some serious work. I'll call Mark at turn one tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up. The track was way to crowded for my taste. The first heat the car behind me was getting a little closer than I would like. The second heat gave me a real taste for road racing, the car, and track. It was a blast man!

best thing to do is mess around on street with brake bias, get it close, then dial in AS much rear brake as you can till rears lock up before fronts, then go half turn back. i always do this at each track and keep notes for different tracks, as well as tire temps, pressures etc.
for example at nh, because of more right hand turns, i pre set right rear pressure to 27 and left rear to 32, both end up at 36-38 hot, but tire temp readings told me i needed to adjust.

It's funny because I've played around with it on the street and never locked up the rears first. The heat really changed the feel in a good way. It may have been due to getting into the corner to hot and starting to lock up a front as well. Next time I hope to have more time to play.

slow in fast out... especially with the weight on the nose of your car, always get your braking done before turn in, if not susp will be very unsettled. kinda like in the spin.
whens the next track event?

The track was really nice. It's a 5 star resort so to speak. The minimum membership is 15k and you still pay to race everytime. You should definitely come over and run it with me sometime.

Interesting, I didn't know they ran the country club business model there. I've seen a few events held there, but I find that idea fascinating. I know VIR is modeled that same way. I've heard its a real fun track. Will definitely have to get out there one day. Vegas doesn't offer me much any more considering I don't drink any more and don't gamble, so this may be the one thing left in Sin City for me. Something for me to do while my friends are nursing hangovers and trying to pick up the pieces.

If you have a cheap older point & shoot camera lying around, you can use it for track footage to record your sessions. I use a Canon Powershot with a 4gb memory card on a cheap $20 mount from amazon.

Video footage is a great way to review your sessions, see where your driving needs work, and its fun as hell to have. Its a cheap solution to the $299, gohero problem, but it works on first gen windshields.

Glad to hear you had fun and weren't turned off by your first time out there. It scares some people. Sliding and sometimes off the track is part of the fun, and you'll be a better driver being able to deal with those circumstances.

Keep me in the loop on driving school. I've been eyeballing the Skip Barber 2 day Mazda driving school up at Laguna Seca for a while now. I think learning in a momentum car like a miata would benefit us greatly, and keep us out of the throttle more, and focused on driving the car properly. I know I have a tendency to muscle my way around the track, fighting both the car and my tires. Maybe a road trip with 2 69 first gens up to Laguna Seca is in order. Could be a fun time.
