I’ve edited and downloaded a bunch of the videos from the One Lap of America and am trying to sort through a bunch of the pictures that we took from the event. Unfortunately, (or in this case – for me – fortunately) “real life” is taking a priority over other things for a couple of days. Until things sort them selves out you’ll have to enjoy the videos for now…
For what it’s worth…
The structure of the One Lap events is 1 recon lap which originates in the pits after which you stop at the start/finish line on track. Once all of the cars have stopped on track you are given 3 timed laps - the combined time of all three laps is your time for the event. Following the timed lap you get one cool down lap. One of the most difficult things about this format is Turn 1 - you never get an opportunity to experience Turn 1 at speed until your second lap... you miss it on your warm up lap and you are still accelerating on your first lap. The other thing that is difficult is that if you don't know the track (and David and I didn't know any of them except from second hand sources) you have to be aggressive on your recon lap to get a feel for braking and shifting zones... enjoy...
Event #1 Wet Skid Pad at Tire Rack
Event #2 Road America Long Course (David Driving)
Telemetry showed that David was doing 145 mph on the rev limiter at the end of the straights
Event #3 Road America Short Course (James Driving)
Event #5 Mid America Motorplex (James Driving)
(Event #4 and #5 were both at Mid America – David drove the first session and I drove the 2nd. This was the “fun” strategy as it didn’t allow either of to become comfortable on a circuit or use any of what we learned on the previous run to improve)

Event #6 Hallett Motor Racing Circuit (David Driving)
Hallett (Events #6 and #7) was one of our best road course outings – we were still reasonably fresh and the track was almost ideally suited to the gearing of the car. This run was good for 14th overall on the day which was an outstanding result.

Event #9 Tulsa Raceway Park
Events #8 and #9 were held on the drag strip at Tulsa Raceway Park. #8 was a one shot low ET pass that I messed up completely (there is video but it’s not anything you want to see). #9 was a bracket race and I was fortunate to get a bye run and put down a spinning 12.34 at 119 mph. I was really worried about breaking the car on this one – hence the slower time. The car should easily run in the 11’s with a bit of work on the launch
Events #10 and #11 were on the roval at Gateway International – I’m still trying to see if we got any video that day but we had about a million other things on our mind that day so I’m not sure if we got anything useful.
Event #12 Mid Ohio Sports Car Course (David Driving)
Events #12 and #13 were at Mid Ohio. David was starting to feel a little under weather after these runs.
Event #14 Lightning Course New Jersey Motorsports park (David Driving)
Event #15 Lightning Course NJMP (James Driving) - this is the wrong way to do this course...
Comparing the two videos I can see that I downshifted way to late and was turning while the back end was still too light. Lesson learned.
Event #16 - Nelson Ledges Road Course (David Driving)
#16 and #17 were on the very unique circuit at Nelson Ledges- a huge change from New Jersey Motorsports Park the day before.
Event #18 "Dry" Skid Pad - Tire Rack Headquarters
This was supposed to be a dry run but it had rained the day and night before and was about 37 degrees that morning. Not too bad but a big change from the awesome weather we had enjoyed for the week before.
[i]A side not about some of the other drivers in the event… the 1st place car in the 2010 One Lap of America was a Porsche GT2 driven by Leh Keen who is defending GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series GT co-champion and, as soon as the OLoA wrapped up was on a plane heading for Germany where he is running in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring… at last report – he was winning…[/i}
Gotta run…
