I had this happen to one of my customers engines that I assembled. I was using a stock/gm crankshaft bolt and a Professional Products harmonic balancer. I always install the balancer with the proper installation tool and then torque the bolt down according to spec. This on just simply backed out, allowing the balancer to slide forward a little bit. The fan belt was the only thing keeping the balancer from coming off of the crankshaft completely. It could have got reaaaally ugly if that happened.

I pulled the balancer, cleaned/inspected the threads, replaced the balancer with a brand new unit, just in case, Loc-tite the NEW Mr. Gasket bolt and torqued it to spec.

Two years ago at the OPTIMA Batteries Ultimate Streetcar Invitational mine basically fell on the ground as we pulled into the pits - finishing our day off nice and early. In hindsight I guess it was lucky to have happened then, sure didn't feel lucky at the time.

As mentioned I think your supposed to use a new bolt. Safety wire sounds like a great idea.

Yes.... that would be great.

At first we used a stock bolt... That bolt was no where to be found. lol.Hopefully it didn't end up going through someones windshield. The second time... i found the "new ARP bolt" lodged inbetween the crossmember and the sway bar. That was after the 175 mph run. The balancer was forward 1/4 inch.
This past time.. the bolt was in.. but i could see the balancer moved 1 rib. I reached down to see if the bolt was tight... and i was able to "un snug" it with my fingers.

As of now... 50 miles on it.. it hasn't moved. But i've been driving "normal".
Got to get this fixed.

ok... I just ordered the "pin kit" from AA corvette. I would try and do this in my garage... but would rather have a engine specialist do it. Is Best of Show the right people... or is there a savvy LS motor dude in the Carlsbad area?

thanks fellas.

I'm sure Best of Show could handle it, but since you're in Carlsbad, I'd just take it over to TurnKey in Oceanside. They'll be closer to you, and save for a few ecotech motors, they deal exclusively in building everything LS related. They're a good group of guys, and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you out.

here is a link to the contact page on their site: http://turnkeyenginesupply.com/Conta...px?key=contact
