Best thing I did when building my house is putting radiant in the slab. I keep it at 55* all winter. It really doesn't make the bill much higher than if I let it go as cold as the weather dictates.

I love mine. If you can, you should focus on increasing your insulation and keeping the heat you generate inside the building. I did the super insulation with 6" walls in my garage when I was building it and have the infrared on through the entire winter. It runs @ 95% eficiency so I dont even see much change in my heating bill. Maybe $10/month in the winter with the garage @ 60 degrees.

I installed a Sunstar 50K BTU in my shop, it is "closed" chamber and vents outside...

It's way overkill considering the local climate here, but I love the thing when it's chilly....and being 20 feet long, it gives great "coverage" to the space....

I set the thermostat to come on if the temp gets down to 62 or so and I just leave it there.

62? I would be working in the shop with the doors open!

Nice!

I know, sad, ain't it?

Former New Yorker...I used to be able to tolerate the cold, no problem.

Moving to Kalifornia in the mid-90s changed all that.
