The tape did seem to help I think, but I also think the volume seems a bit "muted" now maybe?? Not sure why or even if it's related because I didn't change anything else at all.

Possibly stating the obvious, but you haven't accidently taped up the mic on the camera?

I don't think I do. I looked to confirm the mic location, but I am pretty sure it has to be these 3 little holes that I left uncovered.
