Hey all, it's been a long while since hanging around but I had to take a break from the car thing for a bit. Now I'm back into it and really rollin' this time. I figured there's prolly plenty of new folks since I used to hang out in the art work forum so I oughtta re-introduce myself.
I'm Ben and am from up in the Rockies in Eagle Mountain, UT. I've grown up drawing and tinkering on old cars and worked for several years in automotive retail and service. Eventually I left the industry to work as a graphic designer, and after doing that for a while my primal urges to build cars wouldn't leave me alone. Now I'm back in school in a Collision Repair/Street Rod emphasis program at a local college. I recently finished up my first year covering basic paint and body work skills. In August I'll start with my Street Rod specific classes. Amongst the jobs I've had in the past I worked on the sales counter in a speed shop, as a tech in a restoration shop, managed a retail auto service center, and last year while in school I worked part-time in an upholstery shop to try to pick up a few new skills. When I'm not in class I keep busy with Street Rod Designs, my side business of hot rod design/ illustration. My goal is to be able to function in just about any capacity in a rod shop when graduation rolls around- from concept design to project management to final assembly and everything in between.
My project is called Pumkinator and is a 79 Olds Cutlass g-body wagon I'm turning into a show cruiser/ autoX bomber on a student's budget. Luckily having a well equipped shop at school makes it feasible to do most all the work myself. Please check out my build so far from the link in my signature.
Good to be back!
