Default doug nash 5-speed and a 5.3 ??????

Has anyone done this combo ...... I just traded for a doug nash street 5-speed that has been upgraded with a vasco-jet main shaft, I'm gonna put it behind a mild 454 for now but eventually I want to put it behind my 5.3 in my 67 camaro if possible........? Does the tunnel require any mods to run it behind the 454 ???? What have you done for a shifter ???? crossmember ????

I have not done that myself, but I do have a local friend running a nash/sbc combo. He has the motor in the stock location and says the tunnel took "a little work".
I will try to find out more when I see him on the 30th. Wish I could be more help.

Tommy, the Doug nash (or Richmond 4+1) 5 speed is pretty small compared to say a TKO series trans. It's narrow and the centerline of the main shaft runs high through its body unlike a Tremec. This allows it to slip into most places where M21s used to live.
I just installed one in my '67 Chevelle with zero tunnel mods. I only had to open the shifter hole rearward roughly and inch. I've also recently done the Richmond 6 speed in a '67 Camaro with zero tunnel mods behind a 396. The crossmember had to be reworked due to the length and pad height, but it was pretty simple. The shifter handle and linkage offset have to be played with if you plan on targeting the stock console.
These transmissions can be used behind the LSX blocks as the bellhousing bolt patters are the same, less the upper pass side bolt hole. You have to select the right flywheel and clutch, but the market has plenty of options there. A standard "403" or "621" style bellhousing will work depending on how large of a clutch you need. The depth of the input shaft and centerline to the pilot are the same as well. I'm pretty sure Keisler has a retro deal to make the old trans run behind the LSX block with their own bellhousing. Hope that helps-Good luck.

Thank you guys....that's the info I was looking for . I had asked this same question on another site and one guy said to get rid of ...It's junk. I really want to try and make this work, It included 2 scattershields, 2 flywheels and a clutch setup for a 1st gen sbc and bbc. So the scattershield I have should fit the 5.3 ???
anyone have a shifter that will come close to hitting the shifter hole close to the right spot ?

If the scattershield that you have will accommodate a 168 tooth flywheel, then it will work with the 5.3L (I assume LS engine). I put a Richmond 6 speed behind an LS engine and the 5.3L should be the same. YOu can check out details here:
