Absolutely. I agree that 17" is minimum and 18" seems ideal these days with what tires are available and our cars seem to like to run either on unrestricted track days or these 200 TW events.

If you're married to a certain tire, then that can easily dictate wheel size.

I am not sure all the guys that run KDW's would actually run them if there were other good options for all those 18x10/18x12 combos out there...

I pulled up pictures of the WC3 and the GA3R and...yeah I like both. If the GA3R is performance based, that wins the toss up. The one thing I like about it, is that it looks good in just about every color and finish combo.

I'm no expert when it comes to what wheel size is best for performance, but I used to fly with a guy who was huge into race cars and recall him saying that a 16" wheel was best for performance. Is that true....I have no idea, but you might right about running a 17" wheel giving you a bit more grip.
In speaking to Scott Main, the Ga3r is a lighter wheel. I do not know the exact load rating of that vs the Wc3, but the 3pc Wc3 is plenty strong. Something like 2000 lbs per corner. Lightweight wins everytime the way Gae drives.

In your case, you can fit a 14" rotor inside an 18" wheel if you choose to do so at a later point. I'd make sure you spec the wheels to clear C6 calipers. One other thing you need to keep in mind is the photos of the wheels are in larger wheels. Once you shrink them down to a 17", they look wrong. I do agree with tire cost at 17" but I'd still buy 18's. R888's aren't to bad. I shopped around and spent under a $1000 for my current set.
Todd is absolutely correct on the size/looks. I saw a pic of the Ga3r in a 20 and fell in love. Asked Scott about it and he said the smaller wheel looks more 'compact'. Looking at the 17, even the 18 it looks a lot smaller and the spokes change the look iof the wheel. Of course, the Gwc and Gx3 came out about 30 days after I ordered my wheels! My favorite is the De3s, but only comes in 19 and above...

There will always be the MOI argument. J Parsons did a calc on 18 vs 19 and the numbers were really surprising. IIRC, something like 2/10ths per corner braking and accelerating, and 1200 lbs more of force required for just a single inch larger. Of course, you can always make up for that in HP....

I was looking at NT-05's and they dont make a 315 in 18" but they do in a 17". Thats one good reason to go 17.

Brakes would be the next argument but if I go 17 I can always find a set of 6 piston brakes to fit. Aren't the NASCAR guys running 15 and 16" wheels?

Weight is another consideration. I thought I read somewhere that every pound of rotational weight is worth 20 lbs. 17" wheels and tires will most likely be lighter than 18.

Right now I'm thinking GA3R's in 17". They looked pretty good on that '68 that Dave G posted.

Either way, I'll pay a visit to Guy on Sunday and see how the cards fall after seeing how the WC3's look.

Yep, I like Nitto line a lot. Very good value and good selection in 17's.

Those GA3R's I posted were 18's tho... 265 tire front and 315 rear. Falken 615.

I honestly dont think visually anyone will notice a whole lot of difference from 18 to 17. I mean were talking 1/2" all the way around.

I'm sure there's a mathematical formula for that. Something about a spinning mass, p-factor and a train leaving Boston at 9:15am, but I have no idea how to figure that one out.

It's got a lot to do with sponsorship. The ps2 is the 200 tread in those sizes.

surprisingly enough just being one size bigger/smaller is very very noticeable. esp on the rear of a 69 with that square-Esq fender
