I've been a consultant to the major oil companies the last few years, but now I'm one of those salary guys. I work as a Sr Project Manager for a large offshore construction company. Degree in mechanical engineering. Our company owns the ships that are required to build all the subsea oil/gas fields at the bottom of your worldwide oceans. We are working in depths of almost 2 miles nowadays, with specialized equipment. Unmanned robot submarines (ROV's) and huge cranes and winches. I was fortunate enough to get into this field back when 1,500 ft was considered deep, and have stayed at the forefront of this technology. I enjoy the work, because every year it is something different and I work with different customers. I'm typically managing projects in the 30-100 M$ range, so it can be demanding and stressful at times.

Even though I stay busy, I also find time to run a few hobby businesses on the side. I sell forged wheels for cars, do some automotive photography and writing, and run a few car websites.

Nice Career Tony! Small World, I have been inspecting couplers and sub sea valves made here in Woodinville, WA for the offshore operations. It is my understanding that they use robotics to install and it could be a 1 million dollar day operation with all the planning and equipment involved.
