Have the original Ipad. Love it. Never had an issue with it. Very versatile. Great traveling, with the added huge perk of internet on the go - especially when the wife drives!! Great for hotels. You will use it more than you think. No brainer IMO.

Now you guys got me thinking about a droid pad. I got an iPhone and love it, but am not much of a cOmputer guy really. Heck, I do all my surfing on the phone. But at work I use alot of Microsoft Publisher and office stuff, zero mac stuff. If I could do alot of estimates away from the office it would make my home life better I think. I am just at work alot of hours doing the "paperwork" crap that takes time. Is there any drawing or drafting style apps that anyone knows of that could be used on a roof and loaded into the office pc?
Also, can you tether (if that is what it is called?!) to the iPhone for wifi on the road?

Went to a friends house last night for dinner and they have an iPad, so my kids were messing with it...they asked my wife if she wanted one and she flat out said .. "No, dont really have any interest in one.... I'm on a computer all day at work".......great....

Tuff sh*t....I got you one....and you'll love it..

The bottomline is that I know I'll use it 10x as much as her, so one way or another it will get used...

As for movies....I've been using WinX to convert some movies over to iPad and iPod format so they will be ready to try out Xmas day. We got my son an iPod Touch, so he can load some movies too....its an Apple Xmas

I tried Handbrake but its not very user friendly and it wouldnt decode the movies I tried....I guess they have Disney X coding. It went through the process but the image was all scrambled up. So I just shelled out some $$ and bought a program....seems to work pretty easy and decodes all the DVD's

I do have my computer hooked to my TV via wireless, but havent used the feature much....seems to be hit or miss if they connect easy, and they transfer speed seems pretty slow. I can look at our stored pictures etc, but its not very fast......not sure DVD movies will work very well

I have a Samsung TV and the Samsung PC Share Manager software blows...... it never seems to work very well....its slow as hell and seems to crash constantly.

Any suggestions of other software on Windows 7 to allow my TV to find my computer and access stuff on it via wireless connection?

I'd love to be able to stream stuff off my PC wireless to my TV and use the Ipad to control it....

Make no mistake the ipad is no laptop computer but for what it is meant to do its pretty sweet. My son is two and a half and he runs that ipad like crazy. It has him counting and learning to read and he enjoys it. Very usefull for young kids. I might have to get another one in the house because everyone is fighting to use it. lol

We have the new iPod touch.

Got me interested in tablets and now this 'phablet/phonezilla', with its little 5.3" screen.

Here's a thorough review...

Excerpt from this article... http://www.itbusiness.ca/it/client/e...s.asp?id=66019

"The Galaxy Note's two key standouts - the 5.3-inch Super AMOLED display and the stylus, or “S-Pen” - combine to make it anything but a “me too” device. The screen size places it squarely in the middle of being a smartphone or tablet, while the S-Pen offers another input option that could prove more useful to business users than consumers.

Unlike the styluses of bygone eras, the S-Pen is more intuitive. On the side of the S-Pen is a button that when held down, captures a screenshot of whatever is displayed. This can be anything from a document, photo, video still, app, game, you name it. From there, you can jot down notes, circle important items or scribble what you want on the image, and then save it and immediately share it with a contact over e-mail, multimedia messaging, Bluetooth, Picasa or Samsung's proprietary AllShare platform.

Alternatively, you can move the image to the S Memo app and include it as part of a wider note you compose. The S Memo app is where most of the S-Pen input will take place because it's basically a blank canvas. You can import the image, add a screen grab of a map, and paste text as if it were a bulletin board. Jot down a quick note and you can send that combined image to anyone. Even in the case of a large PowerPoint presentation you're editing, you might not want to send it back in its entirety because of its sheer size. Capture the screen shot of the page you're editing with your notes and send that alone instead."

BTW saw this today...

10% off sale today only on pods and pads at Newegg http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/apple-...pon/37556.aspx

Well --- they could go back to living in huts with dirt floors I guess... and while I think all humans should be treated fairly and with dignity - sometimes these things take time to turn around. Just as unions once helped to protect US workers but things had to be pretty bad beforehand.
