I've been off the track for so long now I think I've gotten' numb to it. It was cool hooking up with all my old NASA buddies. Don Barnes is Jerry Kunzman's right hand man and is the Pre-grid Director. He was nice enough to reimburse my gate fees. I told him he didn't have to do that but he insisted. Very cool guy. Kevin Smith is acting director for Time Trials(not sure it's official yet)and I spent a little time with him. He actually walked up when I was talking to Karl and he was telling me how fast Karl was getting. I told him I'd have something for Karl when I get back out. As it stands now I need to make up about 8 seconds at Infineon but that was along time ago in a heavier car with alot less power.

Either way, it's mostly all about the solid people in this hobby. The amount of support Asif was getting in the garage was awesome. People offering help, tools, materials, etc............

Thanks Solarguy. It's actually alot less involved in getting started then most people think. I highly recommend looking into the NASA HPDE program. All you need is an SA 2005 helmet and a car with stock seat belts to get started. NASA will supply an instructor for you. Track day with gate fees will cost you about $190.

Thanks, I will.. I will have to get the Helmet delivered to Steve at East bay Muscle Car...The Wife is just starting to accept the fact that I am going racing, sooner or later.. But a Helmet showing up at the front door, is maybe not so good..

Yes, i am semi retired , and a Newbie, so it is going to be fun to run at some point..

Meeting and greeting will be fun, and I can try to follow the lines and learn..

My Wife and i are going to Yosemite in June, and i told her I wanted to plan it around my Racing Schedule..Not that i have one yet, but just planting the seed..

I did not put the money into the car for a show queen, especially with 28 year old paint.. And the streets are not cool to race at 52..

So, yes, I will get it together soon enough. You guys have me just too excited..

Hey Solarguy,

Gaetano is right the best place is HPDE 1 for beginners. You can go with NASA or NCRC or even some of the smaller open track event holders like Hooked On Driving, Checkered Flag, Shelby Club etc they all seem to have some sort of beginners group.

P.S.
I don't know if I would sell the idea to the wife as "Racing" cause it's not it's a high performance driving experience (HPDE).
I sold it to my wife as learning how to be a better safer driver & learning car control. She has been to several HPDE's to spectate and has seen women and teens out their learning so she's ok with it.

Accelerating is optional...........stopping is mandatory. Your car WILL stop one way or another.
