Nice work Gordon Your tune had to be way off to break that many pistons. My guess is your nascar exhaust caused your engine to go lean and that was your overheating issues. The decibel level kept you from hearing the extreme pinging noise. ha ha The piston debris bent the valves. It's a miracle that you didn't spread that thing all over El Toro.

JERRY: Wait a second. Turbo? I didn't have a turbo.

DETECTIVE: Your car's not a turbo?

JERRY: No, it's a nine-hundred S. (happy) It's a turbo, Elaine, a turbo!

ELAINE: (sobbing happiness) It's a tu-hur-bo.

Nice work Dave! How are the heads and are they going on the new motor?

FWIW - Todd's assessment sounds about right.

Whoa!!! I'm with Todd, how did you not grenade that thing all over El Toro's track lol?

I'm sure it was disappointing to to see the carnage when you started disassembling that thing Dave. Good luck on scrounging parts for the new build!

Dave had his builder already started on the new power plant before this happened. "Well that's what you get for building a new motor" says Todd.

How much total timing did you have and what gas? Kinda hard to tell in the pics, that lil half moon shiny area in the valve pockets is where the valves were hitting

Accelerating is optional...........stopping is mandatory. Your car WILL stop one way or another.

Yep, good stuff!

Didn't think about the boom tube causing a lean condition but that makes sense. We shoulda thrown some race gas mix in the tank like we do at track days, but then then it wouldn't be a "street car" for RTTC.

In all seriousness, it was not too bad of a result. And I knew I was on borrowed time for awhile. We hoped the pistons were the only real damage and the heads are being disassembled/inspected now but besides the valves didn't look too bad.

I need to decide whether to sell the parts individually or throw the motor back together and sell as a long block. The new motor will only use some of the accessories of this motor - all key parts/internals will be new/different/slightly used stuff.

And the new motor will be built and tuned on the dyno by a PROFESSIONAL.
