Default Is DSE Steering Box smaller then stock?

Last night driving the 69 Pontiac Firebird around for a little bit the power steering turned to manual steering.
I have not had a chance to determine if a hose, pump or steering box died but plan to look tonight.

A contributing factor to this might have happening is the fact that a header primary has 1/32 of an inch of space between it to the steering box when it does not touch. Last night the power steering reservoir was scorching hot which leads me to believe the power steering fluid finally got cooked and caused something to fail.

My questions:
Is the DSE power steering gear box physically smaller in size from the stock steering gear box?
Does any company have a steering gear box that is physically smaller in size from the stock steering gear box?

Reason I am asking is if it is smaller then I might be able to get more space between the header primary and the gear box so the heat will not get transferred into the steering box.
The Headers have been ceramic coated to help keep the heat inside the primaries.

Thanks
Ray

What did DSE say when you called and asked them?

The DSE box I used is smaller than the original. I would also be tempted to add some header wrap where it is close to the box.

I have a 600 steering gear box from DSE and Iam having clearance problems with my headers. I have a SBC and Hooker super comp headers (coated) with 1-3/4" primary tubes.

I've use it and from what I remember, it is smaller, but not where it counts for header clearance. I think it was just shorter.
