How long do you leave the car sit in metal without paint? Rust issues?

My painter is adamant about not getting my car media blasted until all fab and mock up is done. It is a pain grinding and working in crap!

Mine was in metal for at least a year without issues. Anywhere it was touched got surface rust, but that only took 10 seconds with my stripper disc to make nice again.
If you strip it then work on it more you'll need to revisit the surface again, so why do things twice? Another thing, shiny clean metal in the sun gets to about 180 degrees really fast.

We blast them so the fab work goes faster.
The painter can just deal with it!!! if you was the car with metal prep prior to epoxy primer you wont have any problems IMO
but if you want to pay a guy to clean off all the crap just so you can do some welding .... then pay to have it blasted when your done....................... i think that sounds a little redundant to me .

Good luck with your painter

As a painter ( over 20 yrs) and builder. We have cars in bare metal for months at time. We always start by stripping the car and sandblasting before mock up because a lot of times there's work that needs to be done u can't see. Plus all the crap is cleaned up and easier to work on. But, as a painter I know why he is saying that. So why not get it blasted then epoxy prime or etch prime it then its cleaned up and protected. Just my opinion

"We have cars in bare metal for months at time". I think they call that metal art
