In a person with CAIS, the mother's body releases the Testosterone, but the baby's body has no reaction to it. Because of this, the child's body and even its brain develop female. The child does still have an XY (male) chromosome. This causes a female body, built on a skeleton that is essentially male.

Unfortunately, the child ends up with a very shallow vagina, no uterus, and testicles (where ovaries belong). These people look, and think like females, though they are frequently incapable of having sexual intercourse.

Would this be the scientific way of saying someone is a hermaphrodite?

No. A hermaphrodite has portions of both sex's external genitalia. These people are fully female in appearance, and their external genitalia are fully female, but they possess an XY chromosome. They tend to be quite attractive as they are, hormonally, 100% female.

During puberty, CAIS women develop breasts, but little to no pubic hair (pubic hair development, in both females and males, is due to testosterone), but they do not begin menstruation due to the lack of a uterus.

Didn't House have an episode about this disorder? If that's the correct word. I remember one with a younger girl who was a model, I believe, and she even took off her clothes yelling something about does this look like the body of a boy. I swear I'm not making this up, lol.

Yes, I understand House did do an episode on the condition. Women with CAIS have a high incidence of testicular cancer due to the fact that their testicles are inside their bodies (where a normal woman's ovaries would be), and thus are too hot.

I learned quite a bit about the condition while doing research for a novel I am writing.

This is Eden Atwood. She is a Jazz singer. She has CAIS. Can you imagine how messed up you would feel?
