Default DSE battery cables

I was looking at some DSE pics and I was just wondering why they run the neg battery cable all the way to the front with the pos cable? I see a lot of other relocation kits only come with a short piece of neg cable. Thanks Bill

From what I know you want to ground your car to multiple locations. So you want to grounf the engine, body ect to the battery so that they all have the same ground.

when I did the battery cables on my car I ran what DSE has but aldo ran one to the body in th trunk area and also on to the pass side cylinder head.

Hope that helps

You will get lots of opinions but I like the negative cable grounded to the drivetrain close to the starter instead of running through 40 year old sheet metal. A body to drivetrain strap is also recommended.

You and Herb Adams. Back in the 80s in his guide to making first gens handle he sold battery relo kits with full length cables for the -

Same reason you always see dim tailights on old cars, old sheetmetal often makes for a bad ground.

Also DSE uses 2AWG battery cables instead of 1/0 or 1AWG. Is there a reason for that also?

Prob because it's easier to work with, and there's not much difference in resistance in that short of length to warrant the additional cost and weight of 1/0 or 2/0. Just a guess though

While I cannot speak for DSE I can confirm all of those points. It is less expensive, lighter and you will REALLY appreciate how much easier it is to work with.

With that said, I will add: be sure to purchase quality cable with good insulation and the more strands of actual wire inside, the better (electrically and also more flexible). Be sure to use good grommets if passing through panels and use cable clamps to stop them from moving around.

As Todd suggested - I run a gnd cable forward also plus ran from that to the sub and another to the engine itself. I have one from the battery itself to the body in the trunk area also.

Hope that helps.
G.
