So True. Our Founding Fathers called it the 'Minority of the Opulent,' which is the same theory under which the Electoral College was underwritten.

It was sure Mitt Romneys idea of a freeloader, someone who doesn't pay taxes but receives benefits.

Look, no hard working person, regardless of their beliefs that people should get a free ride. I pay taxes and I don't want to see it wasted, and I don't want to have people dependant on my money in the long term. In the short term though, when plants are being closed so the jobs go overseas, when companies do massive layoffs despite record profits, I'm more than willing to help out my fellow americans.

The thing is, I'm pragmatic about things, I evaluate all of the angles and I can certainly see why some people would prefer Romney based on how various things impact them or their beliefs.

Additionally, the reality is that regardless of who wins, very little actually changes, so let's not be all dramatic about the impact of the election.

Blake you have been a good friend for a long time. I'd like to keep it that way. Sign up and join us or stay off the U.S. political stage. You don't see me bashing Canada's government or way of life. I expect the same respect in return.
Wow. Buddy.
Actually your government Won't allow me to be a US citizen, they will Allow me to invest money start a business, pay taxes, Medicare, Social security, and all that WITH NO availbility to collect in the future, they mandate that we hire US citizens to manufacture products.
I have an opinion on who the President should be but don't think i have voiced it, as you are correct I have no say and will never have any say, and i'm ok with that.
Honestly if i really cared about the political landcsape i may have made a different descision, but that is not the reason for moving, it is to be closer to YOU!

I agree but to some people it was considered an issue. I mean it wasn't really that long ago when a Catholic in the white house was ground breaking, and we haven't had a jewish president.

I agree with Matt in that a moderate Mitt Romney could have won the election. He tried hard to swing towards the middle near the end but how is anyone supposed to believe someone who shifts so wildly?

Everyone agrees that politicians will say anything to be elected, but that doesn't mean that people will accept it and vote for you anyways. I can certainly see a lot of people voting for Obama simply because it's clearer what you will get than with Romney who has been all over the place.

Back before the last election I thought McCain was great, but then to try to get elected he had to do a lot of things that I don't think were him and I lost a lot of respect for him.

If as they say America is middle-right, who is going to win more and more elections, a party that is far right, or one that is middle-left?

Yep Ron, the quote is

"the primary function of government is to protect the minority of the opulent from the majority of the poor." - James Madison

I believe this was something he said during the Constitutional Convention. This pretty much to me is what Washington is doing. Both Parties. The majority truly has no say in who goes to Washington to represent us. We can only choose from those the parties tell us we can choose from. Very depressing.

This shows you the power of our hobby. While I'm in the garage cutting and hacking on metal, I can forget all about this!
