I got that in Sieg's second response. It's easy to be sensitive nowadays with first responders being at the top of every city's budget chopping block.

I 100% agree we have to be responsible for ourselves.

One thing I do know from 18 years on the job, if you are standing there watching your stuff burn or your family member suffer, that time from the 911 call to me stepping off the engine... hours.

Jeff, most of us appreciate you guys. When I hear about you guys being overpaid, etc... I always say, Who are you going to call when you need help?

One question.... theo owner was there....why didnt he just give those guys the key to the side door rather than sit there and watch them screw with it for 10 minutes to pry it open?

Not that it matters...the car was toast by then....

I dont care if the firefighter were there in 5 minutes..... nothing was going to save that car once the flames started.....it was all over at that point...

I wondered the same thing - why bust down the door when you have a guy with keys...

Jeff... I've always asked why Football players and Basketball players etc make such huge money - and teachers, firefighters, and police get basic salaries... go figure.

I guess I have too many police friends... so I know what they go thru and know what kind of money they make.

ALSO -- those with collector cars... best have an agreed value policy! Then I say let 'er burn. Steal it? Please don't find it. I don't want it back... Send me the check and I'll build new.

As a first responder, getting there is a big concern. Once the fire is going for anytime, and with us spraying water, it is a totalled car and trailer anyway. Nothing will be "saved". No need to hurry, and get one of my guys hurt.

Not just the keys to side door, he wasn't even making an effort to go unhook the truck? No doubt when he dropped that back door, the car and trailer were goners. Maybe he heard the sirens coming and didn't worry about it? I couldn't just stand there and watch the flames walk up the front of the trailer towards my $60k worth of Dmax dually. I guess I value my big white tow rig more than him.

[QUOTE=GregWeld;454665]I wondered the same thing - why bust down the door when you have a guy with keys...

When the first fireman tries to open the door , it looks like the owner goes to the truck and gets the keys, then at one point he tries to go open the door or hand the keys to a fireman and is told to stand back

YES Firemen and Police are waaaaaaay under paid

ALSO -- those with collector cars... best have an agreed value policy! Then I say let 'er burn. Steal it? Please don't find it. I don't want it back... Send me the check and I'll build new. Guess I get waaaaaay to attached to some of my cars.
