The price for aftermarket EFI has definitely increase since the 1990's. Accel made this unit in the past. Maybe you can get one for Gen 1 sb.

It is multi port injection, but was rather popular in early 1990's. John Lingenfelter designed it in the 1980's. Here is an article on it.

If I was upgrading to efi, then I would want a unique design than is what offered now. To get something rather unique, then you have to spend the money for a Gen 1.

Here is old article on fuel injection, but it give you more options.

If you just starting with FI do it right and go to real engine management and those "easy and fast, plug and play".
Dont get me wrong, they do work but you get so much more with systems like MegaSquirt, it last version 3 it is so great.

Now ( or soon, I'm not sure is it out yet) you can get up to 8 lambda's and 8 EGT's. Turn ECU to seqvental and close loop, it will know what cylinder is witch and will tune your engine almost automatic,
You just need to fill the tank and drive all kind of roads with all different styles.

Im all for the aftermarket EFI on Gen1 stuff but, Id agree that a drop in LSx 5.3 w/ headers and cam would probably fall in real.close cost-wise if you did the drop in yourself.

If aftermarket is the way you want to go...the Avenger TBI or wait it out for the Terminator EFI. Both will get you converted with the latest in technology, basic self learn and optional full laptop programming. Either can support LSx, CnP, MPFI later down the road.

It's hard for me to justify spending 2000 or more on an efi set up when I can get a complete 5.3 for much less, plus my car needs a tank anyway so that had to happen, and I'm going to take my time and search for deals on the parts
Thanks

I have seen plenty of deals here on the forums for Gen 1 SBC EFI. I got an Accel DFI setup for $1000 used and it's port injection which IMO is hands down better than throttle body. Keep your eyes open. There are people selling off a lot of good SBC parts because of the LS craze.
