Aren't the mounting tabs on the rear end for the torque arm perpendicular to how they should be?

I am not sure what you mean, but are you saying the base of the tabs should be perpendicular to the corresponding arm?

Hm the bottom one has a Watts link the guy on the top was two cheap to go that route. That is what I see.

The torque arm is going to provide minimum fore and aft support and it's main function is to stabilize pinion angle. I don't see it being a problem having the tabs either way. I can see your point though, it probably would be stronger on the opposite axis since it's preventing pinion wrap.
