No you don't, get an ML-L3 for yours. A genuine Nikon one is less than $20 (I think you can afford it ) or a cheap aftermarket one for much less.
I didn't know! I ASSumed that because it would need to be "electronic" that they'd be expensive (relatively).
I never shoot that way... and only have a monopod (Manfrotto) for use with the long lens -- I want to just stabilize the lens while being able to "follow the action". Monopods work great for that.
