Since this is a site with many years of experience, I would like to ask a question.
What Cars and Options have the Highest Residual Value when Selling your Muscle Car?
For me this subject can be divided into several parts:
The Car Itself - The Make, Model, Type, and Year of Car
The Drivetrain - Engine, Transmission and Third Member
Suspension - IFS, IRS, 4-Bar, 4-Link, 3-Bar, etc.
The Interior - Materials, Seats, Gauges, Stereo Etc.
The Exterior - Paint, Body, Wheels, Tires, Bumpers, Etc.
The Extra's - Anything Special that Creates Extra Value for a Car (Example: If a Car was owned or built by someone Famous, or, if something famous happened in the car, or, if it was used as part of the Media and through exposure became very recognizable)
Completely Original Cars would not be included in this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For Me:
The Car
As of now, I am planning a '69 Z/28/RS Camaro NOM, Rotisserie Re-build. All Sheet Metal will be replaced.
The Drivetrain
565 ci, Aluminum Heads (Maybe Aluminum Block and/or EFI, depending on $$$) Tremac TKO 5 Speed, or 4L80e w/ Shrifter, Ford 9 inch or Corvette Rear End
Suspension
New DSE Front and Triangulated Rear, or, Wayne Due Front and Rear
Interior
DSE Rollbar, Deluxe Black w/ White Hounds Tooth interior, Power Rack and Pinion, PW, PDL, a/c, Tilt, ???
Exterior
Hand Rubbed Paint (Viper Red w/ Black Stripes), Both Spoilers, Mini-Tubbed, Flow Master Exhaust, Endura Bumper
Extra's
Don't know?
At this point it will take between $75-$100k to build this Car.
Even though I almost NEVER sell a car, I always consider anything of big value as far as an, "end game". (Selling Price) Also, since something like this will require a fair amount of money, I try to know how to value it as an asset, just in case if my wife wants a new house or something.
------------------------------------------------------
How would you value the Car above?
Based on your experience, what would you say are the Best Cars to Have and the Best Types of, "Options" to have on them with regards to resale value.
What types of items would be the worst things to add to a car if you were building it to resale at a profit? (please: kick-ass, go-fast stuff only)
I look forward to reading all responces.
Thanks,
