Default Camaro Trunk Lid Latch

I am having a new trunk lid painted for my '68 RS/SS and would like to know if I should install the lid catch before paint or after paint? Should this part be painted the body color or should it be left black? I also would appreciate it if anyone knows of a place where I can buy the hardware for this catch (2 bolts). I'm also looking for the original screw that is used to attach the trunk light to the lid. These small items are hard to find but necessary for a correct restoration. Any info would be appreciated.

Just a suggestion, Zinc plate it and install afterward. in my experience the catch gets scratched up no matter what you do.

On the botlts, no idea off hand but you'll find it either in the Fisher assy manual or call one of the major parts houses and ask them what the spec is.

Edit: I'm not a 100 point resto guy so apologize if I'm off base here.

Yeah leave the resto talk to the "professionals"

It gets painted!! Bolt it in and paint it body color.

On a side note, not sure if your on team Camaro but there's a lot of resto guys there. We would just cut it up and build it the way we want!!

Thanks for the info Rick. I was leaning towards having it painted but thought that I would just ask to make sure. I am on Team Camaro and have this thread posted there also. I am not a 100 points guy either but just thought that since I'm redoing the trunk lid, I might as well do it right. The correct hardware for these parts I'm asking about is hard to find. I can go to the local hardware store and get the right size bolt or screw but in many cases they don't look like the originals.
Thanks for your help.

You are on the wrong site for this question

The answer on this site is..... Have one custom drawn in CAD, then fully machined out of titanium with hidden bolts and a remote opening mechanism.. Then have it anodized with a pearl finnish

I'd paint it as a small part portion of the paint job ----- and then I'd buff some stainless steel button head bolts to a gleaming light reflecting glow... and then I'd use nylock nuts on the backside if required.

If I was going to build a SEMA PT build then I'd go to The Ring Brothers and get me some of those super bolts... And don't tell the group on here "it's just a trunk latch".
