I would not ditch it just for the sake of ditching it.

Just from reading, it seems the GM system is not as advanced or geared towards performance as many others, ie. the offerings from Nissan, Toyota or Honda but more geared towards emmissions. Everything aftermarket used with the system seems to be set up to compensate for this shortcoming.
