In order to do anything "straight" you need a fence or some kind of guide. No way can you do something like this by hand and expect it to be perfectly straight.

Nice piece… and if you're like me - I'll do it until I get it right and learn a bunch of stuff along the way. Then the first buddy that stops by will say -- Hey dip squat! Why didn't you do it "X" way? And I'll scratch my head and wonder just why I didn't… :>)
