Wow, complete material failure? Did they warranty the spring?

Yes they sent out a replacement. Hotchkis procures their springs from some place called "Best" in southern California. Hotchkis first claimed the weight of my two 10inch JL audio subs in the back of the car caused the spring failure. Once that hogwash was mythbusted, they finally admitted the spring wasn't tempered correctly. It snapped as I was going 35mph uphill in route to my gym. I now have a g-ling and can actually drive my car with confidence. I'll never buy another part from Hotchkis and will forever recommend against their line.

It's Betts Spring Co. They make Great Coil Springs, don't know anything about their Leafs. Did Hotchkis or Bess have the Broken Spring in their Hands to say it wasn't Tempered or was it a Guess? The fact that they Sent out a Replacement doesn't warrant a Bash IMHO - I'm not sure what you would have had them do. I Mean S#!] happens sometimes and they took care of you

Trucks tow boats and trailers with leaf springs. IMO there is no excuse for one to snap under the weight of a 2900lb car especially under normal driving conditions. The fact that they had the nerve to suggest it was due to the weight of a 80lb stereo enclosure is disgusting. The replacement spring doesn't come packaged with a quarter panel sheet metal repair kit. So no, since I footed the bill for bod, paint, install, towing and such I'm holding onto the spring so I can set up a small booth at the next goodguys show with the results my steel engineer compiled. But on the bright side I've since procured a full Chassisworks frame and suspension so I'm now riding faulty free.

Material failure is something that cannot be helped. In mass production something can always slip through the cracks. It happens. Glad to hear they replaced your defective item.

Betts Spring is used by many " old school " Corvette racers around my parts....I use Guldstrand or Eaton Detroit for my builds....The guys at Eaton are great! One thing I like about Guldstrand parts, you can can see where they hit the spring with a Brinnel testing rig to insure a quality product is delivered to the end user.
