USCA and OPTIMA's Search for the Ultimate Street Car - the simple facts
Over the last several weeks we've gotten quite a few questions about our events, so we want to take just a moment and share a few facts about the Ultimate Street Car Association. We have a lot of things to offer, so it may sound complicated, but it's really not.
The OPTIMA Batteries Search for the Ultimate Street Car is coming to your area and we’re looking for YOU!
The OPTIMA Batteries Search for the Ultimate Street Car, sanctioned by the Ultimate Street Car Association (USCA), is coming to a venue near you. This new series is designed specifically for performance street cars – all years makes and models – and features five unique segments over a 2.5 day weekend at iconic and historic tracks throughout the country.
The Tracks (partial list):
- Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
- Texas Motor Speedway
- Daytona International Speedway
- Road America
- Sebring International Speedway
The Series: caters to drivers of all skill levels – expert to beginners – with complimentary instructors available for any on-track segments. Any level of street legal performance car is encouraged to attend, from bone-stock to highly modified. There are several ways to participate (entry fees range from $50 - $500 per event, discounted entries are available):
• As a spectator (pit-passes available for all events)
• Road rally and car show only (Silver level)
• All on-track events (no points) (Gold Level)
• All on-track events - national points championship (Platinum level) Referral and group discounts available
MavTV: The new series is being documented on MavTV for a new 13-episode reality TV series called OPTIMA’s Search for the Ultimate Street Car that will begin to air in early August. Don’t miss your opportunity to be one of the rising stars of the new series!

I have a question on the rules. There is a contradiction in the General Rules, Section 1, #28 says:
"The use of racing fire protection gear, neck restraint system and fire retardant shoes/gloves is highly recommended for all run groups and mandatory for Run Group A"
In the Road Course, Section 5, "Run Group C, Novice" it says:
"Safety Equipment required for Run Group C
○ Helmet – SA2005 or better
○ Neck restraint – Hans style, or SFI certified neck collar
○ Minimum - factory or better 3 point safety belts
○ Cotton or fire retardant long sleeves
○ Cotton or fire retardant long pants
○ Fire retardant gloves
○ Fire retardant shoes"
I'm good on the helmet, harness, and I even bought a HANS, but I don't have fire retardant gloves or shoes.
Hoping you could clarify the rules for us.

Yup it's Jimi. Just as the others posted, the gloves and shoes are a relatively small expense compared to the HANS. But, leather shoes and gloves qualify as "fire retardant". I'm looking forward to seeing you at an event.

Hey Jimi, don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to buying more stuff, especially safety equipment. The way the rules are listed, I was hoping you could clarify the rules for myself and others which probably have similar questions. Last thing anybody wants to do is show up and can't run.
I'm looking forward to Daytona as well, just want to be fully prepared. I'm looking at this as one of those "once in a lifetime" events.
Aaron, thanks for pointing out the what is certainly a confusing section of the rules. We will be making a few rules updates and changes later in the year and we'll be sure to correct that.
For now, please refer to section 5 for the detailed safety requirements for each run group.
Jimi, could you clarify something for me. Are you scaling the cars at your events while they go through tech inspection? Or are you just grouping cars by manufactured production weight numbers. The "Dry weight" verbiage is throwing me off.
If you're scaling them, for the under 3,000lbs class vs the over 3,000lbs, is that with the driver or without.
