The owner can say it was stored away and was just recently stolen, etc. I know that's far fetched and I'm reaching, but in all seriousness, the last titled owner is the legal owner without there being any legal transfer of title. The law is different. Now, I do understand you can produce all of these witnesses about how you bought it from the guy you are gonna buy it from and he'll have witnesses on how long he's owned tha car, etc. But, when it comes to the law, it's not what you know...it's what you can prove. And the last titled owner can "prove" it's his....especially if he has the actual title and vin tag in his possession. So, just be careful. Nothing may never come of it, but like you said...you don't want someone coming out of the woodworks trying to stake claim on it. Especially, after you dump your money into it.
I hear ya, and it's my concern. BUT... Without the VIN tag, who could ever claim the car in the first place? That's kind of what I'm trying to determine: is there a way to identify the car without a VIN tag?

Pobably not...willing to say, more than likely not. Like I said, you should be fine. And you trust the guy you're buying it from, so don't worry too much. But, like they say...if it's too good to be true.....

But the thing is...if someone does have a title and it matches a hidden vin on that car, then your SOL.
Also, what happens if it was ever stolen? The first thing they are gonna ask you. What was the license number? None, ok, then what was the VIN number? None.

Not gonna say what to do but you know what has to happen.

Is this car pretty cheap? There was a nice 70 RS on here for $1600 recently.

I don't have VIN etc or title or bill of sale or anything on the Mustang. Cops only come into play if you're driving it on the street... and it's not street legal...

No insurance - no title - no VIN - No problem!! LOL
