One step away from a hybrid that has no connection with the drivetrain. At lower road speeds this engine is decoupled and only providing power as an electric generator. The "transmission" does not appear to be much more than a torque converter attached to a differential. It probably has some kind of method to decouple to allow the engine to run at the ideal speed for the motor /generator that is attached to the crank when it is in a charging mode.
Pretty impressive car. I put forth a similar drivetrain concept in 2006 for a customer who was interested in building hybrid cars. The customer did not see it as viable. Apparently Mr. Koenigsegg has a different viewpoint.
I would go all wheel drive if possible. Using the motors for braking, ESC, and traction control you can truly go to the limits of adhesion on acceleration, cornering and braking with precise control at all four wheels instead of just the two.
