Default IROC steering box swap issue

I am hoping someone else has had this issue. I have read a lot of posts and everyone seems very happy with this swap. I have a 69 camaro with stock power steering. I bought a rebuilt IROC box from NAPA and installed it with no problems. I am using a type II steering pump since I have an LS engine.

Now for the issue, the steering wheel takes much more effort to turn than I think it should. The system is thoroughly bled and I am sure that the pump is ..pumping. The effort to turn the steering wheel is about the same driving or with the wheels off the ground. I have even disonnected the pitman arm from the rest of the linkage to check for binding. The only clue I have is that the steering column moves a little up and down as the wheel is turned, not sure if that was happening before the swap or not.

My next step is to loosen the rag joint bolts to see if there is any binding.

Any suggestions on what my next step is? Thanks

Try backing off the adjusting screw on the top of the box. I have gotten boxes that had play & 1 box that was too tight as you describe.

LOL, thanks

Scott, I will try what you suggest after I make sure there are no issues with the rag joint.

loosen the box to frame bolts with steering column connected, then tighten.
