You'll likely get lots of opinions. The GM MLS stuff is great, and the ls9 units your looking at should be fine for your new purchase.

I must caution you however about you wanting to stud the bottom end. My ls2 is studded at the bottom, but I had my machinist line bore the mains with the new studs, because it will alter the main bore's roundness, due to a different clamping force caused by the main studs. Don't take my word for it, on this issue. Do some research. LS1Tech is your friend, or ask your engine builder.
Some people do it, and get away with it, and some not so much.
I'm not trying to talk you out of doing this, just throwing some caution your way.
