Default Engine Help

I hope this is in the right section, but I'm looking for some advice from more experienced people. Here's my current setup, keep in mind that the car is down for the winter, so I'm in the planning stages.

Current:
stock bottom end 6.o
317 heads, mls head gasket, ls6 intake, stock throttle body, stock truck injectors, Holley efi controller. Custom ground Comp cam

I've read that the 317 heads aren't really great unless your forced induction, so I was looking at upgrading heads (243/799) and having them ported ($800-includes a valve job plus the cost of the heads) so I would end up having $1,000+ in them after it was all said and done.
-OR-
porting the 317's that I already have and buying new valves (saving me the cost of buying new heads)?

The car will be a street/strip, but like everyone else, I want the best perfomance I can get. I'll prob stay with the ls6 intake as going to a holley hi ram prob wouldn't be best for my application. I may look at a turbo down the road, but for now it'll stay NA.
Any help or guidance is always appreciated. Thanks guys!

The 317s would be great for the turbo. If staying NA I would go with a set of CNC 243/799s. They are worth the money and you will be happy with the results. I'd talk with whomever custom ground your cam to nail down the head specs.
