Default iPad as a head unit control

I plan on using my iPad mini to control my HVAC, Windows, and locks on my Camaro with my Infintybox wiring. Since I'm already going to have this in the dash I want to mount the radio in the trunk and control all functions from the iPad. Does anyone know a head unit that is capable of doing this? I see Sony has a few radios that say they can, but the link that had all that information is a discontinued unit. Google hasn't been very helpful unless I'm trying to put an iPad in a VW.

Yes, I plan on using the same setup. Per, Jay Harris at Infinity Box (still named ISIS at the time), told me to use the Kenwood head unit, model# DNN990HD. I bought my unit about 3 years ago and it was $1200. Maybe cheaper by now or they may have other units to control or work with the inTouch Net system.

I knew about that setup, but that puts the kenwood in control of everything and it mounts in the dash. I just want the iPad in the dash and the head unit mounted in the trunk controlled by the iPad. I can just have the iPad run internet radio and Pandora, but I want the Bluetooth for hands free calling and am/fm a head unit provides.

theres a thread on sixspeedonline about an ipadmini installed in place of the stock radio, its a good read. Its almost the size of a double din, tricky but doable. I'm thinking about going this route in the next year or two.

Have a link? I'm not on that message board, but I'll try and search for it later.

I think this is the thread.

It looks like keeping a head unit will be the easiest way of doing things. I can still use my Ipad to control the rest of the car and add a few apps I found in that thread as well. I'll get the trim out of the garage when I get home and start sizing things up.
