Did you purchase a LS1 T56 or an LT1 T56? The LS1 T56 is not a direct bolt up to your engine. The flexplate, clutch, throw out bearing, input shaft and mid plate are different. The bellhousing will bolt up, but the clutch action won't work without heavy modifications.
The best route is to find an LT1 (1997 and earlier) T56.
I bought a 1996 Z28 for $1700 and sold a few things and scrapped the wrecked body and came out to $1150 for the engine, t56, leather front seats, and center consule, pretty good deal for a running LT1/T56.

Got the LT1 and T56 in tonight for a rough fit and to get some other thing to fit like the master cylinder and slave cylinder and custom transmission crossmember.

I still have got to get the old harness out and cut everything out of it that I don't need like the tbi and anything associated to it but all in all I think I've lost about 60lbs or more of dead weight.
Still has some time before it hits the autocross again but when it does it will be a awesome thing to drive.
I test fitted the harness but had to pull it back to run the harness through the dash for a cleaner look.
But didn't have enough wire to run the ecm to the stock spot and so I lost my space for the glovebox.
Got the trucks master cylinder attached to the Camaro Z28 slave cylinder with -3AN line and fittings.
And got the fuel lines also done going from the truck's metric threads to the LT1 push lock fuel lines.
