220 treadwear tires

I have the 615k+ and unless you are doing a good amount of AutoX and burnouts you should be able to get good life out of them. I would be happy with 15-20k miles. I replaced my fronts last year, they had about 8000 street miles and 100 autoX runs. I could have gotten a lot more without the AutoX. The cords were starting to show on the inside edges.

Yeah they are stickier and pick up small stones and such. Have you considered putting a clear film in those areas for your paint protection?

I have thought about putting on clear film to protect the paint. I am just testing the waters on different tires. Not sure what is new out there in the tire market. Thanks for the info.

Here's a tip. Treadwear isn't an exact scientific measurement that's equal between all manufactures. A 200 at one may be the same as 240 at another. It also depends on how many heat cycles the tires go through and the age.

For example: My R7's will have a sweet spot between 1-4 heat cycles. On the 5th cycle they start to fall off. After 12, forget about. They are trash. A7's will overheat during the cycle after about 10 laps (depending the car weight and driver).

My Avon street tires on my cobra are treadwear 80. The first year/2K miles they were crazy stick. After 3 yrs they are now hardened up and act like a 200 treadwear on my 930.

On the track a good treadwear 200 tire is going to be amazing for 1, maybe two laps before they fall off and cycle out. Randy Pobst has a good vinwiki youtube out (Road Atlanta record vid) where he goes into depth about street tires. Good watch.

You're likely not going to notice any difference on the street between 160-240 treadwear, unless you are very sensitive and wheeling the car hard. The more important factor on the street is the age of the tires and wet weather traction.

Yeah, a warm 220 will pick up stones, too.

If stones are your primary concern, you are looking for something 300 or higher on the treadwear.

I decided to keep the Falkens !!
