Since you're not painting it, how about Pat? Short for patina. It's both male and female in origin. Patrick or Patricia.

I think you might be on to something with "scrappy"...

On a different note, Thanks from Texas on the real world connection and updates to the working class of the car world people...
I'm sure it's tough finding the time to keep updates going with work schedule and work requirements...
