Default Removing Hardtop Trim

Looking for some suggestions/help for project 67duece. I want to remove the trim strip that separates the rear quarter from the roof on my 1967 Chevy II (see photo). I would like to blend the two together and make it appear as one piece. Behind the trim it is all one piece, there is just an indentation in the fender where the trim piece is. I don't know where to begin; and I have a big fear of screwing up a nice straight body panel if I do it wrong. Leave it to a pro? Dunno.
