Engine transporting in pick up bed..??

Picked me up a 454, mild build to get my feet wet and see what I want from there. I am happy with the deal as long as it is what its said to be. I feel good as I know alot of people that knows the person I am getting it from. Complete carb to pan, now just need some tight/tucked headers for my stance and pick up a TKO600 and start pluging it together

If you put the big block all the way forward -- you'll never get it OUT --- a cherry picker won't reach that deep.

Take some "dunnage" (aka WOOD) with you --- and a hammer and some nails - build a quick cradle (in an up side down T) -- that will pick up the pan RAILS leave it long in front or back and tie it together with a piece across the ends and support the balancer. Strap the crap out of it so it won't go forward. It will be FAR easier to retrieve when you get home.

I NEVER set a motor down on the pan... that's just asking for a bad outcome.

Autozone -- and or similar will sell you a POS engine stand that bolts to where the mounts go and picks up the bellhousing flange... probably a whopping $30...

I'm with you... I can't run the engine that far forward also because I have a rolling cover and the canister will get all beat.

I will take wood....hammer, nails and a drill.

I have a crate engine pallet your welcome to have if you stop by. But if your taking the lifted truck it might be hard to get it in the truck and on top of the crate with a cherry picker style lift.

Tie it down in front of the bed.

Buy the el cheapo roller stand that bolts to the block and uses the bellhousing bolts and dowels as Greg said. I used one on my complete big block and rolled it all the way to the cab and tie strapped it in. I could roll it easily on my own. Of course mine is all aluminun and that's about 160 lbs or about 250 less than an all steel.
