Default Wiper motor relocation

Has anyone tried to relocate their stock wiper motor to below the upper surface of the driver's side fender on a Gen 1 Camaro or 68-72 Nova?

I'm trying to figure out how to smooth that portion of the firewall without buying an expensive underdash relocation kit. I'm already buying a Vintage Air kit that will take up much of that volume under the dash.

What I've come up with so far is cutting out that patch of sheet metal, mounting features included, and welding it in the concealed area inside the fender (The spot that has that stamped "X".) Then I would have to extend the actuating arm that connects the motor to the wiper linkage. Anyone taken a different route?
