I love that you're including your boy in the build... And building these at home is way harder than it looks... Never enough tools and never enough space... I've built many this way - trust me. I love it!

Looks like you're making great progress. Are you going to reuse the Dynatech headers? If so, it's good idea to mock them up as well so you can check for clearances.

I will be reusing the Dynatech's for the time being. I checked clearance around the new steering box and everything looks good. Ground clearance looks decent.

These are mock up pics before the steering box but there is plenty of room with the box installed:

Great pics of the kids!

I used to "help" my Grandfather and Uncle (he had a yellow 57 Chevy)....When I was about that age. So the '57 was almost new! UGH! When I got in their way - My Grandpa would dump a coffee can of nuts and bolts out on the work bench and ask me to sort them... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... In the summer it was a coffee can with water and a paint brush - and he'd have me paint the house...

Guess that was "pre" X box.

LOL! My grandfather had me doing similar things also. Looking back he was basically keeping my hands busy so he could focus on the "real" work.

I'm really pushing concepts with J so he starts understanding how things work. His questions are always answered. Their minds are sponges at that age.

Decided to tear down the engine due to low compression readings.

Found this needle bearing cap floating around in the block (None were missing though):

Heads:

Cylinder wall:

Water jackets:

Side of me just wants to get a new crate engine, but the practical side is saying to rebuild this one.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.
