68 F-body wheel size - Lateral-g Forums

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site, and the world of musclecars. I picked up a completely stock 68 firebird 350 4-speed car a few weeks ago. Amoung other things, I was wondering what size wheels I can run? I was thinking 16x8 all around, but i heard I may be able to go 9.5 in the rear with the proper offest. I'm thinking about getting a set of torq thrust 2's. Also, what offsets would I need for these wheels? And what tire sizes would you recommend? Keep in mind that I will be using the car as a daily driver, and maybe try to run her occasionally at a road course.

I am pretty sure you can run a 17x9.5 with 5.5 BS and 275/40/17s in the rear.

Should be an excellent start to getting your TTII's.

Most people run 245/45's on a 17x8 with 4.75" of backspacing on the front and 275/40's on a 17x9.5 with 5.5" of backspacing on the rear.

Does anyone offer the rears at that backspacing? Seems like if I want 5.5' spacing with a 4.75 bolt patter, i need to order it custom built...

I had to have my custom made, but American Racing will make them for you, they arent cheap... i know the owner of a Tires plus and got me them at cost, so that helped.

Retail for rear rims will be about 350-400 each. Then add tires, and your set

i have 5.5 bs on a 9.5 rim,eagle alloy.

boyd also has alot of rims that would work but they would not work with c5 brakes I wanted to do.

To recap: The logic here is not a difference of opinion as to what will fit but rather two different approaches:

1) If you choose the no-brainer, off-the-shelf approach, it seems that an 8" wheel is all that will fit. But....
2) With a little homework, you can custom order a 9.5" or even a 10" wheel that will fit.

68BB...I have a '68 Camaro and this is the set-up that I am running....

Billet Specialties HP-25. Rear: 17x9.5 (5.5bs) Nitto 555ZR 275/40/R17. Front: 17x8 (4.75bs) Nitto 555ZR 245/40/R17.
