Thoughts on rear ratio? - Lateral-g Forums

Maybe this is the wrong forum but drivetain seems to have more "help me out". Anyway I'm getting ready to install my LS7 and T56 (Viperized) in my 69 Camaro and cant decide which ratio to run in my rear. Does anybody out there have any thoughts/advice and why?

How does the gear sets in your T56 compare to what the new ZO6 has, and what gear ratio does the ZO6 come with? They're running incredible numbers in the 1/4, so I'd say that the combination that is in the car is spot on and getting as close to that as possible would be the way to go.

EDIT: I realize that your car probably won't be as light at a ZO6, but I would guess you'd have at least a set of good headers and a better CAI setup, so it should make a bit more (30hp?) more than stock.

I'm not sure without looking what the Viper internals have for a ratio, but I have changed the cam out with a Comp Cams, and for headers I will be using a set of Tylers (ATS). For a exhaust it will be a Dr. Gas oval (not much room under a convertable) same flow as a 3" (I cant remember the measurments there either). What is the Vettes ratio? I'm hoping these improvements will gain it at least another 100hp?

I have basicly the same set up,car, motor, trans, cam, headers, and I'm running 3.73's. Try one of the speed analizers on a trnsmission site

I use a 3:73 with my T56. I am very happy with both the performance, and streetability. I am happy with the balance of just enough, but not too much shifting. I don't know if there is any difference in the Z06 6 speed, but I know that the preferred gear among 4th gen F-body guys seems to be a 4:10 ratio. I have driven cars with 4:10's and they are a blast to drive. If your engine is heavily cammed, I would think the deeper gear would be the way to go.

If you plan on running down the strip a bunch you will need to calculate what RPM you want to go through the traps in 4th...7000? Calculators will figure it out with tire dia, gearing and RMP. High 10's or low 11's with a 26 inch tall tire at 7200, I believe is around a 3.70 gear.

The 4.10 gear in 4th gen camaros are usually with auto and the manual guys run the 3.73, but depends on mods to the car. The 4th gens fully dressed are around 3750 lbs.

I am running a built LS1 that should make close to 450 at the wheels, with a T56 and I am running 3.80 gear (9 inch)

I am sure some one (Scott) can find out what gear Steilow is running in X. It is an LS7/T56 combo.

Thats my plan is to run a 9" also. I was hopeing to run what the ZO6 is or something close. Something in the deep 3's or low 4's would be ideal I think just which one? I dont plan on running the quarter with it, but I would like some economy heck the ZO6 is rated at 28mpg

, that would be great to be reasonably close to that. I also dont want to be shifting more than I have to. Yes I want to eat my cake too.

3.90's would be the gear of choice.
