Hey yall this is my first post here, and I know there aren't nearly as many mustangs on this site as chevys and mopars but I was hoping someone could help me out.
I've got a 70 stang that I picked up some through-the-floor subframe connectors for. I'd like to see if anyone here has any experience with this type of frame connector and if they have any suggestions or comments. Thanks alot guys.
I'll post up some pics of the car in another thread.
Jeff has a full length chassis for that car ( I think). Call him up at the shop.
Full length connectors are not a bad way to go. I did a set of thru the floors on a Fox body and the older ones are similar.
Because of the floor contour of mustangs, for best appearance and function, the through the floor ones are the way to go. Just be careful when cutting not to go too big. I've used Global West "to save some time" and by the time I bent them to follow the floor better, and completely revamped the rear attachment points, I would have been way better off cutting the floor and building my own with 2x2 square tube. Good luck! and it's good to have more mustangs, especially 70's!
Id use bolt one ones something like tcp sells. The cut the floor weld in ones are nice. Just i wont use something that don't bolt on in case i want to put the car back but each there own.
So I got the passenger side in. And WOW if there is one MAJOR drawback to getting your classic media blasted, its all the media that pours on your face and into your ears and shirt when youre under the car banging and grinding!
WOW I mean you would not believe how much is trapped in the frame rails and in the floor pan. Ill post pics up when I can.
As far as installation goes, It was pretty straight forward. Granted your front subrame end pieces were installed square from the factory (unlike mine..), it's just a matter of grinding to accept the connector end, hammering to a good snug fit and cutting the floor to accept it.
BTW before you cut your floor, measure x5 before cutting....
Ive got about a .5 inch gap on one side to patch. Other then that the rest went in quite easy. Its gonna look good once i clean up the welds and get it all painted and pretty.
sorry for not updating, been busy with clients and the like.
Anyways, got the subframes in awhile ago, and they look pretty good. Only drawback is the i cut a little too wide at some points... So I had to weld in some sheet metal to fill the gaps. After grinding them down they look decent, and after coating the interior should look good!
Also, where can I find info on the flares that were commonly used on the 69/70 trans-am cars? Dont want to mini-tub it, but want to fit 295s or bigger. I know you can fit 295s but that just seems too tight for me.
On the left over media best way i found is put it on a trailer and drive down a bumpy road just don't knock the car off the trailer. Those fender flares look like this http://www.mustangandfords.com/thehi.../photo_18.html looks like they just pushed and rolled the fenders to get that arch i don't see any line between them and its a race car there fit and finish ain't the best.English wheel you could make them out of metal and just weld them on.
