Default What rear are you guys running on your 69 Camaro?

To Jody, Scott and all you others planning on putting 900+ HP down in your 69's:

What rear end are you guys planning on running?
What carrier/housing?
What axels?
How wide is the housing?
How much backspace does that let you run on a wheel?
What gears are you running?
What tranny are those gears running with?

I am ordering my DSE tubs on monday and need to start thinking about what rear carrier/housing to get along with what rear suspension. I was looking at the Currie enterprise 9" aluminum housing a la Mule.

If i plan on going 3 or 4 link, does that matter what housing i get? or can i weld up the bracketry later once i decide on what rear suspension i get?

I was told somewhere down the line that a 55 1/2" Wide housing will let me run a 18x12 wheel with 6" of backspace on a DSE tubbed 69. Just wanted to verify this.

Nutsy check the main page.Here is Scotts set up

Rear: DSE 3" drop leaf springs (175 lb-in rate), custom valved Koni shocks, Global West Del-a-lum bushings, DSE billet offset shackles, a new Currie 9" rear end. The rear has an aluminum housing, nodular iron 9+ Race Case, 31 spline axles, 3.70 gears, a Currie TSD limited slip, billet 1350 yoke... built to my custom width measurements for the HRE wheels.

I'm running 6" back spacing, and I believe Scott and Jody are using something similar.

The thing to do would be to purchase your wheel and tire combo, mock them up under the car (making sure they are square with the car), then measure for the rear-end.

I wouldn't take anyone elses measurements for granted without first measuring your car, as all cars are different.

You're right Bill, I went with 6" of backspace. I also agree 100% that using someone else's numbers is a huge risk. I'd highly recommend getting your wheels and tires then fab a test fixture to mount the wheels up in the wheel wells where you want them and measure the overall width of the rear end (including the thickness of the rotor hat, which in my case with Baer Eradispeed is .250" per side).

So what you guys are saying is wheels and tires are my next purchase after i get the body back from metal work?

I was afraid of that... so hard to make that choice. I guess i am really now going to have to fork over the bucks to get Chris to do some renderings

Not built for 900 hp, but here are my specs:

-Ford 9" housing mated to custom length axles housings.
-3.5 gears
-Moser (sp?) 31 spline axles
-Outer hub mated to LS1 4th gen Camaro mount for direct bolt on 12" rear brakes
-I whimped out and decided NOT to tub the car. Went with a custom length of the axle which was basically 2.5" wider on each side than stock. This is also the same width as a 4th gen Camaro.
-This allows me to run any stock wheel from a 1988-2004 Vette or LS1 Camaro in the rear. "IF" I had done the DSE tub I could run the 2005 Vette wheels which are 1" wider per side in the rear.

Was also able to transfer the e brake straight from the LS1 2002 Camaro by cuting and welding the mount to the side of the shackle mount. It rolls right into the stock 69 e brake mount on the subframe. Only had to lengthen the rod that comes off the passenger sub frame by 6" to get it all to perform perfect.


-Spring is a VB&P fiberlgass
-Edelbrock Shocks
