What insurance do you have on your car/project? Does your company have issues with a rollcage?

Funny Scott,just responded to this same question just now over at the Chevelle board...I'm with Tamra Perto @ MK insurance in Elmhurst,IL.She is a broker for all the biggies in the insurance biz,so she can represent Hagerty if you so choose.I currently have $150K of coverage with 3 cars for under $400/yr.There are mileage restrictions but since I don't put a ton of miles on my cars,I just chose the plan that best fit my needs.The last poster over @ www.chevelles.com commented that Hagerty was $150/yr more just because of a 6-pt cage.I'm not sure how Tammy handles that,call her toll-free @ (866) 695-2774

Havertys is who I have used for the last couple years, however, I am thinking of changing in January. They don't mind rollbars, just want a full description of any and all modifications and price the policy accordingly. However the 3000 mile max a year is killing me because I drive my junk. I realized on the way home from the Power Tour that I was over my max and that was in June.....argh....
Don't forget that little issue if you are shopping and are truely going to drive your car.

I use MK Insurance as well for my 3 cars and they are very easy to deal with. MK is a sponsor on the yenko boards and most everyone who deals with them come away happy and that has been my experience as well.

Has anyone run into issues with racetracks or using your car at a racetrack, dragstrip or autocross? Has anyone ever inquired with your insurer?

I know from our open track days that some of us are covered, some have no coverage while on the track and some aren't even covered in the parking lot as a spectator!

When I checked, I'm good as long as it isn't competitive or preparing for a competetion. We don't have any timing equipment at our events and have instructors so it is technically a 'Driver's school'. (This is with Liberty Mutual on my Impala SS)

The Geico, Progressive and the like are the ones that don't seem to cover you at all if you are on the property of a 'racing facility'. Even in the parking lot as a spectator! Some don't cover you while on the track, competitive or not.

Thanks for the thread, Scott. It reminded me to call Hagerty for my Riviera.

Haggerty has been easy to work with but they bumped my premium 50% when I added my rollbar. Said it became 'modified' although they were very flexible on the motor.

I am working on my first project...what insurance companies are you guys using for your rides? Do they cover cars that run on race gas and have a fuel cell in the trunk?

Good question. And I wonder if it makes a difference if it's in the project state for a few years.

I am sure that being in a garage as a project will make a difference. I use Haggarty and when I was looking alot of them would be based on estimated mileage use, and alot of other factors having to do with the car being On the road. I had to send pictures of the finished car, and notarized forms saying the car was road worthy by one of my shops. So to simply get some coverage while the car is in project stage should be cheaper.

Does a car have to be insured in your state when its not on the road??
